Concord bests Bobcats, 79-42Box score
ATHENS, W.Va. --- The Concord University women's basketball team outscored Lees-McRae College by a 46-18 margin in the second half en route to a 79-42 victory in non-conference play on Thursday evening.
Concord (4-1) posted a field goal percentage of 47.9 percent on the evening, including a 54.1 percent clip in the second half, while holding Lees-McRae (4-1) to a 25.8 percent mark from the floor to hand the Bobcats their first loss of the season. The Mountain Lions won the battle on the glass by a 55-29 margin, including a 36-19 advantage on the defensive boards, while outscoring the Bobcats 60-24 in the paint and converting 18 LMC miscues into 23 points.
Concord's Jolysa Brown tallied a double-double with game-highs of 22 points and 12 rebounds to pace the Mountain Lions, while Andrea Bertrand turned in a double-double of her own with 13 markers and 11 boards. Camisha Alexander and Anna Truckley added 13 and 10 markers, respectively.
Megan Tate (High Point, N.C.) paced the Bobcats with eight points, as DeAnna Waters (Upper Marlboro, Md.), Kerri Belcher (Roanoke, Va.), and Amber Coleman (Alexandria, Va.) each added six markers. Sophie Witte (Hamburg, Germany) and Waters each chipped in a team-high four rebounds, while Icey Patterson (Seneca, S.C.) paced the Bobcats with two assists.
Concord jumped out to a 14-7 lead early in the first half before Lees-McRae responded with an 11-4 run, evening the tally at 18-18 with a Patterson layup. After Juliane Faltus (Berlin, Germany) gave the Bobcats a 20-18 lead with an easy score on the fast break with 6:49 to go in the half, the Mountain Lions responded quickly with a 15-4 run to close out the half, taking a 33-24 advantage into the intermission following a last-second triple from Alexander.
The Mountain Lions carried the momentum into the second half, opening the period with a 17-8 run to take a 51-32 lead on a Truckley layup at the 13:55 mark. Concord would push the margin to 69-38 with an 18-6 surge over the next eight minutes before closing out the night with a 10-4 spurt to equal the final margin of 79-42.
Lees-McRae returns to the court on Friday, December 30 when the Bobcats travel to Bristol, Va. to take on Virginia Intermont College at 6 p.m.
