    Bobcats Invade the Northwest: A Friday of Firsts This week has flown by and before we knew it, Friday was here and it started earlier for some than others. A group of seven went outside of town around 3 a.m. to try to see the Aurora Borealis (Northern Lights). The best way to view the lights is to go to the outskirts of town, where the city lights will not interfere with the viewing. The lights were faint, but identifiable.

    Bobcats Invade the Northwest: An Alaskan Thanksgiving Not only was Thursday Thanksgiving, but it was game day for the Lees-McRae women’s basketball program. The day got started with an 8:30 a.m. walk through to prepare for Wayne State (Neb.). In order to get to the Patty Center, we walked up the snow covered steps. Later in the day a maintenance worker was asked about the amount of snow that had fallen, and he commented that we had received approximately three inches.

    Bobcats Invade the Northwest: Snow-Globe Wednesday Well, it was a snowy and cold Wednesday in Fairbanks that started before the sun came up. The team had a two-hour practice beginning at 8 a.m. When we walked out to the van, the temperature was reported to be two degrees Fahrenheit with snow falling. While in the gym for practice, a university employee blew the snow off sidewalks. However it only took a few moments for the concrete to be covered again. That proved to be a theme of the day: snow! It fell all day throughout Fairbanks and the surrounding area.

    Bobcats Invade the Northwest: Scenic Tuesday Tuesday took a turn to the North with a trip to the North Pole. North Pole (http://www.northpolealaska.com/) is a small city outside of Fairbanks, and a big tourist attraction. The main attraction is the Santa Claus House, which is the home of the largest fiberglass statue of Santa Claus. Upon arrival to the Santa Claus House, we learned that Santa Claus was not in today, so either he was checking his list twice or busy making toys for the good girls and boys. Despite Santa’s absence, the team was able to see a few reindeer. Along with seeing the reindeer, we were able to learn some interesting facts.
