Rollins Tops Lady Bobcats

WINTER PARK, FL - The Lees-McRae Lady Bobcats dropped an 18-8 decision to non-conference foe Rollins College Friday afternoon, falling to 0-6 this season. Rollins evened their record at 3-3.

Annie Harris led the home side with a four goal and one assist performance. Kate Pray, Liz Connelly, and Courtney Bianculli, each tallied hat tricks, with Connelly adding three assists to her goal count, and Bianculli recording one. Bianculli also had a huge day on defense as she caused nine turnovers for the Tars, and collected 11 ground balls. Lacy Goodwyn and Katy Tyszko added a pair while Katie Hubbell rounded out the scoring. Lisa Weber was good for seven saves in the Rollins goal.

Freshman Desiree Cox (Hendersonville, TN) continued her torrid scoring pace with her second career four goal performance giving her 18 goals in just five career games. Cox went 2-2 on free position shots and also contributed defensively causing three turnovers.

Sophomore Abby White (Madisonville, TN) added a pair for the Lady Bobcats while Cloe Klaus (London, Ontario) and Ellie Psillas (Hagerstown, MD) scored one each to round out the visitor scoring. Klaus made a big impact defensively as she led the team with five ground balls and collected four draw controls. Olivia Maurey (Port Orange, FL) registered 13 saves in between the pipes for the Lady Bobcats.

Rollins jumped out to an early three goal lead at the start of the game, but with a goal from Cox the Lady Bobcats were up and running with 19:32 left in the first period. A six goal Rollins streak would leave Lees-McRae in an eight goal deficit, and even though the Bobcats outshot the Tars 4-2 with 11 minutes to go in the first half, the Rollins women's lacrosse team was still leading 11-5 as the game resumed in second half action.

Rollins would net seven more goals in the second half before the Bobcats could answer back with their final three. A strong Rollins defensive squad held Lees-McRae at bay and shut down the wavering team in all areas of the field.

The Lady Bobcats will play one more game in Florida before their home opener March 18th against Dowling. In a neutral site contest, the Lady Bobcats will battle Bryant University Sunday afternoon before returning home. Game time is scheduled for 11:00am at Rollins College.
