BANNER ELK, NC - The Lees-McRae College Lady Bobcats dropped a 17-6 Conference Carolinas women's lacrosse contest to Belmont Abbey College Thursday afternoon at Tate Field. The loss drops the Lady Bobcats to 0-11 (0-7 Conference Carolinas) while Abbey improves to 8-6, (5-3).
The Abbey jumped out to quick 4-0 lead just under five minutes into the game before Clair Shaw was able to put the home side on the board. The Lady Bobcats would play some tight defense and hold the Abbey for a short while, but the visitors proved to be too strong, cruising to a comfortable 12-3 lead at halftime.
The second half saw the Lady Bobcats tighten up defensively, slowing down the Abbey offense and holding them to five goals. Unfortunately for the Lady Bobcats the damage had been done and the visitors took home the convincing 17-6 conference win.
Tara Chmil led Abbey's attack with a game high five goals while Meghan Darley chipped in with a hat trick. Brianna Dignan and Shannon Farden each chipped in with a pair for the visitors while Samantha Hooker, Morgan Cross, Theresa Nolan, and Rhegan Flanagan added singles to round out the scoring.
Six different players record the Lady Bobcats goals, as Ellie Psillas and Julia Campbell buried free position opportunities and Abby White, Cloe Klaus, Clair Shaw and Desiree Cox all found the back of the net.
The Lady Bobcats will be back in action Saturday afternoon when they travel to Belmont, NC to take on Methodist College in non-conference action. Game time is set for 2:30pm.
