BANNER ELK, N.C. -- Athletic Director Ried Estus is pleased to announce the addition of Amanda Chase to the athletic staff at Lees-McRae College as the head women's lacrosse coach.
As Coach Chase enters her first year at the helm of the Lady Bobcats she brings a passion for the sport and a hard work ethic to the program.
"We were in the right place at the right time to be able to add Amanda to our athletics staff. She's a charismatic individual with a passion for lacrosse and an optimism for the future of our program," Athletic Director Ried Estus said. "Coach Duffy did a remarkable job in her two years here, and I'm convinced Amanda will use that momentum to her advantage."
Coach Chase comes to Lees-McRae from the University of New England in Biddeford, Maine where she received a Bachelor of Applied Exercise Science in August of 2008 graduating with Cum Laude honors. She also was named to the Dean's list and received the Merit Scholarship for Academic Achievement all four years.
Chase was a three year starting midfielder for the University of New England Nor'easters until she was sidelined her senior year with a season-ending injury that occurred in a work-related accident. Determined not to let an injury keep her from being involved in the sport she loved, Chase began a new phase in her career, moving from player to student assistant where she was involved in the daily planning for practices and games along with running speed and agility practices. She was also selected as the Nor'easters' captain her senior season.
Coach Chase has been involved with the CHAMPS/Life Skills Program. As an intern she spoke on season-altering injuries and planned the first annual Girls and Women in Sport Day held at her alma mater. Amanda also served four years on the University of New England's Student Athletic Advisory Committee
Coach Amanda Chase resides in Banner Elk, N.C. and in her spare time enjoys staying active, cooking, and scrapbooking.
