HIGH POINT, N.C. --- The Lees-McRae College women's lacrosse team is picked to finish fifth in the race for the 2012 Conference Carolinas regular season championship, announced league officials Tuesday.
Lees-McRae posted a 3-10 record last season, finishing sixth in the conference with a 1-6 mark against league opponents in head coach Nick Wagner's first year at the helm. The Bobcats concluded the 2011 campaign ranked first in the conference in saves per game (12.00), and second in shooting percentage (.456), and third in ground balls per game (29.46).
Limestone College tops the preseason poll for the sixth straight year, coming off a season in which it captured both conference titles while advancing to the national championship game for the first time in program history.
The Saints received 36 points and six first-place votes in the poll, followed by Pfeiffer University (29), and Queens University of Charlotte, who garnered 27 points and one first-place vote. Belmont Abbey College is fourth with 22 points, followed by Lees-McRae (14), Converse College (12), and Erskine College (seven).
Lees-McRae returns nine letter-winners from last year's squad, including seniors Anna DeLuke (Woodstock, Ga.) and Tiffany Rodman (Corona, Calif.). The Bobcats open the 2012 season on Friday, February 17 when they travel to Gaffney, S.C. to take on defending conference champion Limestone at 4 p.m.
