CENTRAL, S.C. – The Lees-McRae College women's lacrosse team opened its Conference Carolinas schedule on a high note Thursday as it defeated Southern Wesleyan on the road, 12-3. The win pushes LMC's record to 1-1 on the season.
The two teams nearly played 10 minutes before the first goal was scored on Thursday. After that goal, which was scored by the Bobcats, the flood gates opened up a bit as LMC added five more goals to lead SWU 6-0 at the break. SWU did score three times in the second half, but Lees-McRae scored six more times to seal its first win of the 2018 season. Overall, the Bobcats peppered the Warrior defense with 42 shots on the afternoon, while allowing just 14 attempts defensively.
Plenty of Bobcats got on the scoresheet Thursday as eight different players scored a goal in the victory. Sophomore Beth Haynes led the way scoring the first three goals of her collegiate career, while also leading LMC in shots with eight. Tiffany Laster and Constance Madden both put forth two-goal efforts, and Olivia Gilleland also notched a pair of points with a goal and an assist. Anna Lingle, Peyton LeCompte, Sara Henderson and Patterson Jones also scored goals in the contest for LMC.
In goal, Dayna Decesare made eight saves in 11 shots faced. Decesare's eight saves are tied for the second-most saves that the sophomore net-minder has had in a game so far in her career as a Bobcat.
LMC will look to win its second straight game when it returns to action on Feb. 23 when it visits Lee University. Lees-McRae defeated the Lady Flames last season by a score of 18-9. Next Friday's contest is scheduled to get underway at 4 p.m.
