BANNER ELK, N.C. - The Lees-McRae College women's lacrosse team dropped its Conference Carolinas contest to visiting Mount Olive on Sunday (Mar. 17) by a score of 22-3.
Game Summary - Mount Olive scored the first six goals over the first 20 minutes of the first half, before Kalbie Grassett got the Bobcats on the board with a free position goal. The Trojans would score their next two goals just 1:12 apart to stretch their lead to 8-1, before Madi Barry would score from Patterson Jones to break up the run with eight minutes to play in the first half. Mount Olive would score four consecutive goals to end the first half and head to the break up 12-2. Mount Olive would score the first three goals of the second half over the first eight minutes, before Jones would score from Katie Kendrick to break up the run. Jones's goal would be the only marker of the second half for Lees-McRae, as Mount Olive went on to score seven unanswered goals in the second half.
Stats Rundown - Lees-McRae totaled 12 shots in the contest, including seven on goal. Grassett, Barry and Jones each scored for the Bobcats, while Kendrick and Jones each tallied one assist. Lees-McRae totaled 10 ground balls in the loss, with Hope Allen leading the team with four. Samantha Thomson collected three, while Grassett picked up two and Emily Davidson also scooped up one. Davidson also had the lone caused turnover on the afternoon for Lees-McRae. The Bobcats won 13 draw controls in the game, led by seven from Grassett. Christa Tumminello also collected four, while Jones won two. Thomson (0-2) took the loss in the cage, making seven saves.
Up Next - The Bobcats (0-5, 0-3 Conference Carolinas) are back at home next Sunday (Mar. 24) to host Barton for Senior Day. Opening draw for that contest is set for 1 p.m.
