Lady Bobcats Claw Past Buffaloes

Banner Elk, NC--The Lees-McRae Lady Bobcats snapped a five game losing skid Thursday evening, defeating Milligan College 1-0 in non-conference action at Tate Field. The Lady Bobcats improve to 3-8 while the Lady Buffaloes fall to 2-7-1.

Freshman Tiffany Rodman (Corona, CA) put the Lady Bobcats on the board with the game's only goal, capitalizing on a penalty kick in the 29th minute. With the ball deep in the corner, Rodman was taken down and awarded the penalty kick, sending the ball into the top right corner for her second goal of the season. Despite being outshot 7-5 in the half, the Lady Bobcats managed to carry to the one goal lead into halftime with freshman Marissa Middleton standing tall (Olathe, KS) in goal and registering five saves.

Protecting the one goal margin, the Lady Bobcats defense tightened up in the second half, limiting the visitors to five shots while kicking eight themselves to finish the contest with one more than the visitors, 13-12.

Middleton finished the game with a career high nine saves while Rosanna Couture also picked up nine in the Milligan goal.

"I'm so proud of these girls tonight in coming together as a team. They put together an all-out effort for 90 minutes and feels great to get the win!" commented Coach Renee Lopez after the game.

Coach Lopez added "I want to commend the efforts from our entire offense in trying to get in behind their defensive line. I especially want to commend freshman Tiffany Rodman for her outstanding tenacity on and off the ball which led to the foul and allowed her to take the PK which resulted in the game-winning goal."

The Lady Bobcats will resume Conference Carolinas action Saturday at Coker looking to improve upon their 1-4 record. Kickoff is set for 3:00pm in Hartsville, SC.
