FERRUM, Va. -- Senior captain Christine Calvert had a goal and an assist to lead the Lady Bobcats over the Ferrum College Lady Panthers 3-0 Tuesday night at Panther Field.
Freshman Jessica O'Leary (Millbury, Mass.) scored her first
collegiate goal in the 28th minute to give the Lady Bobcats a 1-0
lead.
The two teams carried the score into the locker rooms, but three
minutes into the second half Calvert (Dallas, Texas) found the back
of the net on a Vickie Rich (Arlington Heights, Ill.) assist to
make it 2-0.
In the 66th minute, freshman Brooke Santerre (Port Republic, Md.)
scored her first collegiate goal on a Calvert assist pushing the
final margin to 3-0.
Sophomores Brittany Bolton (Roanoke, Va.) and Marissa Middleton
(Olathe, Kan.) combined for the shutout in net for the Lady
Bobcats.
"It was great to see Jessica and Brooke get their first collegiate
goals," said head coach Renee Lopez. " They have been finishing
in practice, so I am glad to see them finishing in a game."
"We played very well defensively," Lopez said. "I am pleased with
our progress, but as I told the ladies, we need to keep fine-tuning
things."
The Lady Bobcats will continue to fine-tune things Monday at 7:00
p.m against Brevard in their home opener at Tate Field .
