BANNER ELK, N.C. -- The Lees-McRae Lady Bobcats used a pair of first half goals from Aerial Gregston and Melissa Horn to beat the Columbia College Koalas, 3-1, at Tate Field Thursday night in a non-conference match.
Gregston (Atwater, Calif.) found the back of
the net in the 21st minute when freshman Mary Gibson (Hendersonville, Tenn.) crossed a
ball and Horn flicked it through to Gregston to make it 1-0.
Horn (Pasadena, Md.) scored the first goal of
her career in the 33rd minute when she picked up a rebound inside
the six yard box and slammed it to the back of the net to make it
2-0.
Skylarh Thorne got the Koalas on the scoreboard in the 77th minute
when she chipped a shot in the back of the net from 35 yards out to
make it 2-1.
But the Lady Bobcats answered three minutes later when freshman Vickie Rich (Arlington Heights, Ill.) blasted
a shot that beat the keeper to make the score 3-1. It was also
Rich's first goal of her career.
The Lady Bobcats outshot the Koalas 31-4.
"It was great to see Vickie and Melissa get their first college
goals tonight," said head coach Renee Lopez. "It was a hard fought
battle, and we were pleased to get the win. However, we know we
need to step up our game as we start Conference Carolinas play this
weekend."
The Lady Bobcats head to Laurinburg, North Carolina to take on St.
Andrews Presbyterian College in thier conference match Saturday at
2 p.m.
With the win the Bobcats improve to 4-0 on the season, while the
Koalas fall to 0-6.
