WILSON, N.C. - Barton's Eboni Nichols scored a pair of goals, including the game-winner two minutes into the second overtime Saturday night, as the Barton College Lady Bulldogs rallied for a 3-2 win over the Lees-McRae Lady Bobcats.
With the loss the Lady Bobcats fall to 7-2 overall and 2-2 in
conference play while the Lady Bulldogs improve to 5-3 overall and
4-0 in the conference.
Freshman Vickie Rich opened the scoring for the Bobcats. Sophomore Tiffany Rodman fired a shot that was saved by Barton junior goalie Ashley Gregory, but Rich was there for the follow-up that went off the fingertips of a lunging Gregory.
The Bobcats made it 2-0 in the 54th minute when Rich outraced a defender down the left side and sent in a cross from 30 yards that Rodman headed into the net.
Both Rich and Rodman finished the match with a goal and an assist for the Lady Bobcats.
At 80:59 Allie Wilkerson made a run down the left side and crossed the ball into the middle where Nichols walked over the ball and left it for freshman forward Hilary Peterson, who beat the goalie.
Just over a minute later, senior Meagan Bynum sent a through-ball down the middle, where Wilkerson outraced four defenders, ran onto the ball and flicked it right to Nichols, who scooted the ball under the LMC keeper Marissa Middleton.
After a scoreless first OT, Nichols hit a diagonal shot into the middle of the net for the winning goal on a assist from Wilkerson.
The Lady Bobcats outshot the Lady Bulldogs, 15-8.
Gregory came up with 13 saves while LMC's Marissa Middleton made five saves.
The Lady Bobcats will take the pitch again on Tuesday, September 30th at 7 p.m. against Warren-Wilson College at Tate Field.
