BANNER ELK, N.C. - The Mt. Olive College Lady Trojans (3-10, 2-4) scored in the 76th minute to squeeze past the Lees-McRae College Lady Bobcats (8-5, 2-5), 2-1, in a Conference Carolinas clash Friday night at Tate Field.
Mt. Olive scored first in the 30th minute, when Lyndsay Brenna
picked up a loose ball in the box and fired a shot past the Lady
Bobcat keeper for the goal.
The Lady Bobcats tied the match at one in the 44th minute, when
Melissa Horn (Pasadena, Md.) picked up a rebound and found the back
of the net for the goal. The rebound came off a Brooke Santerre
(Port Republic, Md.) long-range shot that hit the crossbar.
Alyecia Higgins scored the game winner for the Lady Trojans in the
76th minute to make the score 2-1. Higgins got a through pass from
Lyndsay Brennan and beat the Lady Bobcat keeper to the near post
for the goal. The shot was the only Lady Trojans' shot in the
second half.
The Lady Bobcats outshot the Lady Trojans 23-6 and held possession
of the ball for the majority of the game.
Lyndsey McIntyre made six saves in goal for the Lady Trojans to
earn the win ,while Brittany Bolton (Roanoke, Va.) made three saves
in the losing effort for the Lady Bobcats.
Lees-McRae will host Randolph-Macon in their next match Sunday,
October 12th at 3 p.m.
