Lopez Adds 10 to Women's Soccer Team

BANNER ELK, N.C. - The Lees-McRae College women's soccer head coach Renee Lopez has announced the signings of 10 new players to her 2009 Lady Bobcat team.

"We are extremely excited to have signed these 10 bright student-athletes," head coach Renee Lopez said. "They have their priorities in line and understand they are here for academics first, but also are extremely committed to helping us achieve a Conference Carolinas Championship. They come from some of the top club and high school programs in the nation and will fit right in with our returning players. We look for these 9 freshmen and one transfer to make a significant impact for our team in 2009."

Sabrina "Bre" Ashley is a forward from Wilkesboro, N.C. She plans to major in communication arts at Lees-McRae. Ashley played for Wilkes Central High School and club soccer with High Country Soccer Association.

Mary Biehner is a goalkeeper from Wilmington, N.C. She plans to major in athletic training with plans of being a high school athletic trainer. Biehner played high school soccer at Cape Fear Academy and club soccer with the PISA Hurricanes.

Mary Bowers is a center midfielder from Alexandra, Va. She will major in elementary education with plans to be a teacher. Bowers played for Bishop O'Connell High School and for SYC Patriots club team.

Jessica Cardenas is a outside midfielder from Bakersfield, Calif. She will pursue a pre-health major with aspirations of becoming a neonatal nurse. Cardenas played for Liberty High School and club for Bakersfield Brigade.

Mary Dorn is a midfielder and defender from Shallotte, N.C. and a transfer from Appalachian State University. She will be a business major with plans to be CPA. Dorn played for West Brunswick High School and club soccer with Cape Fear Soccer.

Lauren Griffin is a center back from Kernersville, N.C. She plans to major in biology and follow a career path in veterinarian medicine. Griffin played for East Forsythe High School and club for Winston-Salem Twins.

Emily Jones is a midfielder from Leonardtown, Md. She is currently undecided on a major but wants to pursue a career in physical therapy. Jones played for Leonardtown High School and club for FC Alliance.

Erica Mason is a center back and outside midfielder from Denver, N.C. She plans to major in athletic training and pursue a career in athletic training or physical therapy. Mason played for East Lincoln High School and Lake Norman Soccer Club team.

Nicole Rogers is a goalkeeper and forward from Durham, N.C. She plans to major in wildlife rehabilitation with plans to be a veterinarian. Rodgers play for Riverside High School and club for Triangle Futbol Club.

Monica Young is a defender from Supply, N.C. She is currently undecided but has future plans of being an attorney. Young played for West Brunswick High School.

These 10 players will be welcomed to the program by 18 returners, 10 starters, and two who are coming off season ending injuries a season ago. Senior Abby White will also rejoin the team after taking last season off to concentrate on an internship.
