BANNER ELK, N.C. - Vickie Rich had eight total points, as the Lees-McRae College Lady Bobcats women's soccer team won a 6-3 shootout over Trevecca Nazarene Tuesday afternoon in a nonconference match at Tate Field.
Rich's eight points come on three goals and two assists. She was involved in every Lady Bobcat goal but one during the match. Rich leads the team with 13 goals and 30 points.
With the win, Lees-McRae improves to 7-5 overall.
Lees-McRae got on the scoreboard first in the 10th minute when Jessica O'Leary got a through pass from Shaina Ormsby and found the back of the net to make it 1-0.
The Lady Bobcats notched their second goal in the 13th minute when Rich scored her first goal on an Aerial Gregston assist.
The match then saw three goals in the 34th minute. The first came off the foot of Rich when she dribble down the sideline and beat two defenders for the long shot and goal. Trevecca got on the scoreboard eight seconds later when Kayla VanEs scored on the kickoff on a pass from Kassie Evick to make it 3-1. Maribeth Novak scored 30 seconds later when she ripped a long distance shot on a pass from Rich to make it 4-1.
VanEs scored her second goal of the match in the 78th minute for Trevecca when Heather Halstead slotted her through for the goal to cut the lead to 4-2. Three minutes later Trevecca again cut the lead with a goal from Evick on a long shot that beat the keeper high to make it 4-3.
Ormsby gave the Lady Bobcats an insurance goal in the 87th minute on a cross from Rich, and Rich added the final tally on a penalty kick in the 89th minute to give the match the final of 6-3.
"It was a good win for us, although we did let down a bit on defense," head coach Renee Lopez said. "It was great to get many of the younger players on the field and showcase their talent as well. We will use this as a stepping stone for an important match vs. Mount Olive on Saturday!"
Lees-McRae outshot Trevecca 23-13.
