BANNER ELK, N.C. - The Lees-McRae College women's soccer team tied Milligan College Wednesday night at Avery High School in a nonconference match.
Prior to the match, the Lees-McRae seniors were honored. Tiffany Coleman, Aerial Gregston, Allison Keith, Lauren McLelland, Maribeth Novak, Shaina Ormsby and Ashley Splawn represented the class of 2010 for the Lady Bobcats.
With the tie, the Bobcats are 10-6-1, and Milligan is 5-4-5 overall.
Milligan controlled most of the possession in the first despite being outshot 9-6 by the Lady Bobcats.
In the second half, Lees-McRae took control of the match and fired off 12 shots compared to four for Milligan, but in the first overtime period it was Milligan possessing the ball and holding a 2-1 shot advantage.
The second overtime period saw a scramble for the golden goal with the Lady Bobcats holding a 2-1 shot advantage, but neither could score.
Brittany Bolton made nine saves for Lees-McRae, and Heather Crumplen made seven for Milligan.
"This was a very special night for our seven seniors as they all had loved ones here to support them," head coach Renee Lopez said. "I am proud of the 110 minutes that we battled against a team that we lost to last year 4-1. It was a great game to prepare us for our final regular season match against conference rival Pfeiffer."
Lees-McRae will travel to Pfeiffer for the final match of the regular season. The team is currently in fifth place in the conference, but with a win control their destiny.
