Five Lady Bobcats named to Academic All-Conference Team
HIGH POINT, N.C. --- Lees-McRae College placed five student-athletes on the 2010 Conference Carolinas Women's Soccer Academic All-Conference Team, announced league officials Wednesday.
Brittany Bolton (Roanoke, Va.), Mary Dorn (Shallot, N.C.), Jessica O'Leary (Milbury, Mass.), Vickie Rich (Arlington Heights, Ill.), and Brooke Santerre (Port Republic, Md.) were each named to the team in recognition of their outstanding academic work. This is the first time each of these exceptional student-athletes has received this honor.
Bolton has been a tremendous part of the Lady Bobcats' success this season, posting five shutouts and a goals against average of 1.03 thus far, which both rank second in the conference. Lees-McRae has already clinched its best finish in the conference standings, due in large part to the senior goalkeeper's stellar play.
Dorn has enjoyed a fine career with Lees-McRae, playing an integral role on this season's superb back line, which has allowed just five goals in conference play. The junior defender's imposing presence was felt almost immediately following her transfer from Appalachian State University prior to last season, as the Shallot, N.C. native started 18 matches on the back line while leading the Lady Bobcats to seven shutouts.
O'Leary is in the midst of one of her best seasons at Lees-McRae, tallying three goals, three assists and eight points thus far for the Lady Bobcats. In all, the junior forward has posted nine goals, four assists, and 21 points in 54 career appearances for LMC, tallying a pair of match-winners in that span.
Rich has been a tremendous offensive force for the Lady Bobcats over the last few seasons, tallying 28 goals, 16 assists, and 72 points in 57 career matches. The junior forward posted 15 goals, seven assists, and 37 points last season en route to a Daktronics NCAA Division II All-America Third Team selection. So far this season, Rich has tallied eight goals, six assists and 20 points.
Santerre has burst onto the scene this fall for the Lady Bobcats, entering Saturday's regular season finale ranked second on the team in goals (eight), assists (seven), and points (23). The junior midfielder has also tied her career best with two match-winners, while swelling her lifetime totals to 12 goals, 13 assists, and 37 points at LMC.
Lees-McRae returns to the pitch on Saturday when the Lady Bobcats host Coker College to close out the conference and regular season. The match is slated to kick off at 3:30 p.m. at Tate Field following the conclusion of LMC's Senior Day festivities.
