HIGH POINT, N.C. --- Lees-McRae College sophomore Sarah Mahar (Jacksonville, Fla.) has been named the Conference Carolinas women's soccer Player of the Week for the first time this season after leading the Bobcats to a 2-0 record last week, announced league officials Tuesday.
With a pair of victories last week over Pfeiffer University and Barton College, Lees-McRae (4-6, 3-1 CC) pushed its winning streak to three matches overall and three in league play, holding off Pfeiffer by a 3-2 score line before blanking Barton, 2-0, on Saturday. The Bobcats currently sit second in the conference standings, just one point behind Belmont Abbey College.
Mahar kicked off the week with her second career multi-goal match, posting a brace with two goals against Pfeiffer. The sophomore forward got the Bobcats off to a flying start just 30 seconds into the contest before adding a late winner in the 89th minute. Mahar followed with another stellar performance on Saturday against Barton, providing the assist on Meagan Thornton's (Millville, N.J.) first-half winner to extend her point streak to three matches.
Lees-McRae returns to the pitch on Wednesday when the Bobcats travel to Spartanburg, S.C. to take on Converse College in league play at 6 p.m.
