HIGH POINT, N.C. --- Lees-McRae College junior Meagan Thornton (Millville, N.J.) has been named the Conference Carolinas Women's Soccer Player of the Week for the second time in her career after leading the Bobcats to a trio of shutouts last week, announced league officials Wednesday.
Thornton is the second Bobcat to be named conference player of the week honors this season, joining sophomore Sarah Mahar (Jacksonville, Fla.), who earned the honor on October 8. Lees-McRae (9-6, 7-1 CC) enters the week riding an eight-match winning streak, including six straight clean sheets and a stretch of more than 580 minutes without conceding a goal.
A native of Millville, N.J., Thornton paced the Bobcats to a trio of clean sheets last week, scoring four goals and one assist. After opening the week with the extra-time match-winner against Mars Hill, Thornton had a hand in all four goals against Erskine, netting a first half hat trick and adding an assist on Sarah Mahar's opening strike.
She capped the week with a strong performance at Limestone, providing a constant threat on the attack while having a significant involvement in the buildup to both goals in LMC's 2-0 win. Thornton is currently tied for the team lead with seven goals, four assists, and 18 points.
Lees-McRae returns to the pitch on Saturday when the Bobcats travel to Mount Olive, N.C. to close out their regular season conference schedule against Mount Olive College at 4 p.m.
