SAINT AUGUSTINE, Fla. --- Lees-McRae College junior Meagan Thornton (Millville, N.J.) has been named to the Daktronics NCAA Division II Women's Soccer All-Southeast Region team for the second time in her career, earning second-team honors, announced region officials Monday.
Clayton State University led the way with five selections, as Lenoir-Rhyne University and Wingate University each played four players on the all-region teams. Jade Montgomery was named the Southeast Region Player of the Year after leading the South Atlantic Conference with 17 goals, 11 assists and 45 points.
Thornton adds to her trophy case with her second career all-region honors from Daktronics, earning a spot on the second team for the second time in three years, after garnering all-Conference Carolinas First team honors for the first time earlier this fall. A native of Millville, N.J., Thornton led the Bobcats with eight goals, five assists, and 21 points, pushing her career totals to 22 goals, 14 assists, and 58 points in her tenure at Lees-McRae.
The two-time all-conference selection has netted five match-winners thus far in her career, adding five multi-goal performances and a trio of hat tricks, including a first-half treble in a 4-0 victory over Erskine this fall.
Lees-McRae is expected to return 19 letter-winners from this year's Conference Carolinas regular season championship squad, including rising seniors Ariana Smith (Jackson, N.J.), Kaitlyn Briggs (Oviedo, Fla.), and Thornton.
