BANNER ELK, N.C. --- Junior Mikaela Renfro notched her second goal of the season, but the Lees-McRae women's soccer team fell to Tusculum, 4-1, at Tate Field Wednesday evening in Banner Elk, N.C.
The Pioneers (6-3-1) saw Miriah Martin improve to 4-0 on the season while Taylor Lewis paced both squads with eight shots. The Bobcats (3-5) posted seven shots in the second half while senior Kaitlyn Briggs (Oviedo, Fla.) recorded seven saves on the night.
TC drew first blood when Kelli McCalla received a pass from Payton DeHart and cranked out a 25-yard blast to the right side in the 26th minute.
The Pioneers stretched the lead to two after passes from Courtney Hackney and Olivia Kilgore gave Lewis a one-v-one opportunity; which she was able to beat Briggs to the lower left at the 30:21 mark.
Renfro (Orlando, Fla.) corralled a pass from senior Meagan Thornton (Millville, N.J.) and connected on a 25-yard rocket less than three minutes into the second half to cut the deficit to one, 2-1.
The Pioneers responded quickly when Shannele Sunderland recovered a blocked shot and squirted it into the lower left 16 seconds later.
Lewis would notch her second goal of the match at the 83:28 mark to make it 4-1.
A trio of Bobcats recorded two shots each.
LMC returns to action Saturday at 3 p.m. when it hosts Mount Olive at Tate Field for homecoming.
