Carson-Newman Tops Women's Soccer, 3-0

BOONE, N.C. --- The Lees-McRae women's soccer team suffered a 3-0 setback against Carson-Newman in a nonconference tilt at the Ted Mackorell Soccer Complex Wednesday afternoon in Boone, N.C.

The Eagles (7-1) won their fifth consecutive contest while goalie Jessica Fraiture earned her first career clean slate. The Bobcats (2-6) saw freshman Alexis Feely (Wake Forest, N.C.) record her fifth contest of seven or more saves.

The game was relocated to Boone from Banner Elk due to inclement weather.

CNU's Varin Ness notched her first of two goals in the 21st minute when she was able to bend a corner kick and have it hit the back post and ricochet into the net.

Feely remained poised when she faced a barrage of shots minutes later, but was able to amass a pair of saves in a 62 second span.

Ness struck again at the 67:58 mark after Camilla Olsson fed her a ball 10 yards outside the box. Ness was able to get a clean foot on it and find the upper right corner.

CNU recorded 13 shots in each half while LMC notched five and six, respectively.

Gabriela Dias tallied the contests final goal with less than four minutes remaining.

LMC's Sarah Mahar (Jacksonville, Fla.) and Mallory Overholt (Grand Bend, Ontario, Canada) registered three shots a piece.

The Bobcats welcome Barton Saturday, Oct. 3 for a Conference Carolinas battle as part of Homecoming Weekend at Tate Field at 2 p.m.
