Women's Soccer Battles Barton to Scoreless Draw

BANNER ELK, N.C. --- The Lees-McRae women's soccer team amassed 20-plus shots for the third time this season, but the squad battled Barton to a scoreless tie in a Conference Carolinas tilt Monday afternoon at Tate Field in Banner Elk, N.C.

The Bulldogs (5-5-3, 2-4-3 CC) played to their third tie of the season while Kelsey Rothwell made 11 saves. The Bobcats (4-8-1, 2-4-1) cranked out 24 shots, which marks the second time in two matches that the team has eclipsed the 20-shot plateau.

Senior Sarah Mahar (Jacksonville, Fla.) notched one of her match-high seven shots at the 8:13 while Rothwell was forced to make her first save of the day.

LMC's Kelsey Twigg (Barrie, Ontario, Canada) blasted a pair of shots in less than two minutes before Mahar followed up with two more.

Senior Molly Ames (Greensboro, N.C.) had a solid chance when Rothwell had to go full extension to deflect the ball off the crossbar.

Coach Kiko Magaña's squad outshot BC, 19-3, after the first half.

Mahar, Mallory Overholt (Grand Bend, Ontario, Canada) and Erin Barcal (Wilmington, N.C.) peppered Rothwell for a shot each within a 24-second span in the final overtime frame.

Freshman Alexis Feely (Wake Forest, N.C.) made three saves while earning her third shutout in the last four matches.

The Bobcats welcome North Greenville Wednesday, Oct. 21 at 5 p.m. at Tate Field.
