BANNER ELK, N.C. --- Three different Lees-McRae seniors scored while the women's soccer scorched Erskine, 5-1, on Senior Day in a Conference Carolinas battle Saturday afternoon on Tate Field in Banner Elk, N.C.
The Bobcats (5-11-1, 3-7-1 CC) scored a season-high five goals while the seniors were responsible for all but one point. The Flying Fleet (1-15-1, 0-9-1) closed out a brutal season despite taking 10 shots.
Senior Erica Allen (Norton, Ohio) opened the scoring barrage in the sixth minute when Sarah Mahar (Jacksonville, Fla.) went for a long run down the right side and fed it to Elise Steinmetz (Louisville, Ky.), who gave a touch to an open Allen. Allen took advantage and blasted it past Ashton Burgess.
Mahar retrieved a Mallory Overholt (Grand Bend, Ontario, Canada) pass and fired a shot past Burgess at the 10:54 mark to make it 2-0.
Overholt notched her fourth goal of the season with less than 15 minutes to go in the first while Mahar and Brenna Cripe (Panama City, Fla.) earned assists.
EC got on the board when Jamie Morris connected on a blast from 27 yards out.
Allyna Ankney (Sneads Ferry, N.C.) delivered a long pass to Mahar in the 35th minute. Mahar took advantage of sloppy play from Burgess before scoring into an open net.
Overholt concluded the scoring with her second goal of the contest when a failed clear attempt left her wide open in front of the net.
LMC outshot EC 22-10 while Mahar led the way with six shots.
Nine Bobcats concluded their collegiate soccer careers.
