Women’s Soccer opens its home schedule with matches against Carson-Newman and Barton this week

BANNER ELK, N.C. – The Lees-McRae College women's soccer team will open its regular season home schedule this week with a pair of matches against Carson-Newman Wednesday and Barton on Saturday. Kickoffs for these games are scheduled for 5 p.m. and 1:30 p.m., respectively.

Last Time Out – The Bobcats fell in its season-opening match last Thursday at Newberry, 2-0. Junior goalkeeper Alexis Feely led the Bobcats with 10 saves in the contest.

Newcomers make their debut – Seven Bobcats made their collegiate debut Thursday at Newberry and they were: Amanda Lubkemann, Maddie Olson, Allyson Burney, Kiara Montenegro, Cassie McFayden, Tegan Dean and Lauren Paulsen. Montenegro and Olson paced the newcomers as both freshmen posted a shot against the Wolves.

Magic Number is Two – A number to keep in mind for both matches this week is two. When the Bobcats score two or more goals in a game they are 7-1-0 since the start of the 2015 season. On the flip side when Lees-McRae doesn't score twice, it is 5-23-1 during the same time frame.

Scouting Carson-Newman – The Eagles are 2-0 so far in 2017 with victories over Ferris State and Georgia College. Carson-Newman is outscoring its opponents 7-1 in the two games so far this fall. Pacing these efforts has been Magda Mosengo who has with seven points (3g, 1a).

Scouting Barton – Barton is currently 0-2-0 on the season after falling to Missouri-St. Louis and Catawba last week. Jordyn Brown and Taylor Doeble are the only players to score for the team so far in 2017 with point totals of two and one, respectively. In goal, senior Haley Sauls has played every minute for the Bulldogs so far and has made nine saves in 13 shots faced.

Series Histories – The all-time series between Carson-Newman and Lees-McRae has been very competitive as the two programs have each won six of the 12 matchups. The Eagles got the better of the Bobcats in their last meeting as they defeated LMC, 4-0. As for the series against Barton, Lees-McRae holds the slight edge with a record of 12-9-3.
