CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Lees-McRae College swimming programs closed out their first ever appearance at the Conference Carolinas Swimming Championships Saturday in Charlotte. The men's team closed out the week finishing fifth, while the women's squad placed sixth.

Standout swims – Saturday's action had plenty of solid outings by the Bobcats, including their performances in the two relay races. In the men's 400 yard relay, the quartet of John David McCray, Javier Sanchez, Bailey Lupo and Arsham Mirzaei placed third among five teams. The women's race, meanwhile, Lees-McRae's team of Kayla Fleming, Elli Seabrook, Kaci Thornton and Jennifer Paul placed fifth out of six schools with a time of 3:48.03.

Individually, Mirzaei posted the top finish for the Bobcats Saturday. Mirzaei finished third in the 100 yard freestyle with a time of 45.41. Teammates Sanchez (4th – 200 yard breaststroke) and Bradford (5th – 1650 yard freestyle) also earned All-Conference accolades on the day.

Paul paced the women's team in its final day at the conference meet finishing fifth in the 200 yard butterfly with a time of 2:14.55. Paul wraps up an impressive week in Charlotte by earning All-Conference honors in three different events.

Coach's take – "It was a fantastic ending to the meet with both relays having great swims," said Lees-McRae Head Coach Sean Weddell. "I'm very happy with all our performances. Everyone showed how strong a team we can be even with 10 swimmers. I am really looking forward to the years to come and the growth of not only the swimmers but also the programs."
