Swimming continues to show improvement to wrap up second meet of the season

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. – The Lees-McRae College swimming teams continued to show improvement during their second meet of the 2019-20 season Saturday afternoon in Rocky Mount, N.C. The Bobcats won five individual events on the day in swims against Barton and Chowan.

The tandem of Christian Nishimura and Arsham Mirzaei collected the event victories from the men's team. Nishimura took the top spot in the 100y breaststroke, while Mirzaei took first place in the 50y fly and the 100y freestyle races. Both Nishimura and Mirzaei finish the weekend with three individual event victories.

The women's team also posted a pair of event victories against the Bulldogs and Hawks. Molly Layde took home the gold in the 500y freestyle, while teammate Sophia Vanderpool was first in the 100y breaststroke. For both Layde and Vanderpool, it was their first event victories as Bobcats.

"Today was very good," said LMC Head Coach Sean Weddell. "We had two goals beyond individual swims. One was win more individual events out right and two end the meet with a combined win over Chowan. The team achieved both. Very happy with how the team competed and most dropped time from last meet."

The Bobcats will be back in action on October 26 when the men's team takes on Greensboro College, while the women's team competes in a tri-meet with Greensboro and Salem.
