    CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Lees-McRae College swimming teams turned in several stellar performances on day one of the Conference Carolinas Swimming Championships Thursday in Charlotte. Highlighting the day was Molly Layde breaking the conference record in the 1000 yard freestyle event.

    BANNER ELK, N.C. – The Lees-McRae College swimming teams will head to Charlotte this week to compete in the Conference Carolinas Swimming Championships. The Championships will run from Thursday through Sunday at the Mecklenburg Aquatic Center in Charlotte.
  • Lees-McRae swimming teams earn CSCAA Fall Scholar All-American Team honors

    COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Lees-McRae College swimming programs were honored Wednesday by being named Scholar All-American Teams by the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA). The men’s team posted a collective grade point average of 3.13, while the women’s team put together a grade point average of 3.74. The women’s team GPA was the second-highest in all of Division II women’s swimming during the fall.
  • Swimming set to compete in a pair of meets this week

    BANNER ELK, N.C. – The Lees-McRae College swimming teams will be back in action this weekend for a pair of meets. First, LMC will compete in a tri-meet against Mars Hill and King at Tennessee High School in Bristol on Friday. Following that meet, the Bobcats will head to Lenoir-Rhyne for another contest on Saturday. Friday’s action will get underway at 6 p.m., while Saturday’s is set to begin at 2 p.m.

    GREENVILLE, S.C. – Conference Carolinas announced that 157 Lees-McRae College student-athletes earned spots on the Fall 2019 Presidential Honor Roll. Overall, there were 2,742 student-athletes in the conference to earn this honor.

  • Lees-McRae Named Finalist for NCAA Award of Excellence

    INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Lees-McRae College Athletic Department was named as a finalist for the 2020 Division II Award of Excellence by the NCAA on Friday afternoon. Lees-McRae was chosen because of its Afterschool Swim program where swimming student-athletes from Lees-McRae taught Banner Elk Elementary school kids swimming skills in an after-school program that is free of cost for the elementary school students.

The men’s team defeated Greensboro College 145-73, while the women’s team knocked off Salem College by a score of 134-49 and Greensboro College by a 133-14 final tally.

    GREENVILLE, S.C. – The Lees-McRae College swimming programs were picked to finish fifth and seventh in the Conference Carolinas Preseason Coaches’ Poll Wednesday morning. The men’s team was picked to finish fifth, while the women’s team was selected to finish seventh. Furthermore, the trio of Arsham Mirzaei, Christian Nishimura and John David McCray were picked as swimmers to watch for the men’s team, while the group of Molly Layde, Kayla Fleming and Sophia Vanderpool were selected as swimmers to watch on the women’s team.
