Banner Elk, NC--The Lees-McRae College women's tennis team will open their season Thursday when Appalachian State makes their way up the mountain to take on the Lady Bobcats start at CD Chesley Tennis Center. Matches get started at 3:00 pm and are free of charge.
Division I Appalachian State, like Lees-McRae, has a young roster this season with only two juniors, Frances Blanton and Anja Gugger, while the Bobcats' team also includes just two upper classmen. Senior Katherine Smith, (pictured top left) and junior Brittany Sherrill will guide a youthful Lees-McRae program. Although both teams are young, the match-up should prove to be an exciting one. ASU boasts a 13-8 record last season, finishing 5-4 in their conference play (Southern Conference) while LMC players performed well in the Fall '06 preseason and continue to progress. A rebuilding year for the LMC team, the Spring '07 season promises much improvement and growth as they face teams that will push them to their best.
