The Lees-McRae College Lady Bobcats tennis team rallied from a 2-1 deficit after doubles play by sweeping all six singles matches to defeat host St. Andrews Presbyterian College 7-2 in Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference women's tennis action on Saturday afternoon at the Scotland County Tennis Complex. The Lady Bobcats even their record at 2-2, (1-2 CVAC) while the Lady Knights remain winless at 0-5, (0-2 CVAC).
The Lady Bobcats completed the comeback with straight set victories from Kasey Mabe, Jenna Simpson, Cameron Joyce, Katie Hawkins. The win by Mabe was her fourth consecutive, improving her record to 4-1.
St. Andrews won the first two doubles matches to take the early lead. Morgan Worthington and Nikki Garrison won 8-6, while Kellie Milam and Rachel Hanna gutted out a 9-7 victory for the Knights at the second draw.
Joyce Katherine Smith cut the deficit to 2-1 heading into singles with an 8-2 victory in the third doubles match.
In the top singles match, Worthington won the first set for the Lady Knights, but Ashley Mayers, (pictured top left), rallied back to take the contest (2-6, 6-1, 6-1). Smith completed the singles sweep for the visitors by also rallying from a first set loss to Hanna (4-6, 6-3, 6-4).
The Lady Bobcats travel to Coker for another CVAC contest. Matches are set to begin at 1:00pm.
