Goode Wins State Championship

Paul Goode, Head Men's and Women's Tennis Coach at Lees-McRae recently competed in the Closed State Tennis Tournament held in Greensboro, NC, battling the top tennis players in the state. Goode won five consecutive matches to capture the 2007 State Championship.

Goode, (pictured top left), started the tournament with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Kevin Beard, (Matthews, NC), in first round action before dispatching Dipesh Rao 6-4, 6-2 of High Point, NC in second round action. After going 2-0 in preliminary action, Goode moved on to face Mason Schermerhom, (Colfax, NC), in quarterfinal action, winning 6-4, 3-6, 7-5. Goode swept Tony Mule in semifinal action 6-2, 6-3 to earn a spot in the State Championship against David Hopkins of Winston-Salem, NC. In a back and forth match, Goode prevailed with a 7-5, 7-6 win to claim the North Carolina State Championship.
