BANNER ELK, N.C. - The Lees-McRae College women's tennis team will start the 2010 season ranked 43rd in the nation and ninth in the Southeast Region according to the ITA.
The Lady Bobcats went 16-7 overall and 8-1 in the Conference Carolinas to earn a share of the regular season championship. They finished third in the conference tournament and just missed a bid to the NCAA Southeast Regional Tournament.
Individually, Christine Vanard is ranked 13th in the region.
"This is an exciting time for our women's program," head coach Paul Goode said. "This ranking would not be possible without the belief of my first team in 2006 who laid the ground work and helped me rebuild the program after it was dropped in 2005. I am so proud of the team we have today and how hard they have worked to get us to this point. This national ranking will give us even more confidence to achieve our goals for the spring. After finishing tied for first in our conference last spring, this is another great step for us. We all know it is going to take a tremendous amount of work over the winter if we want to win our conference and I believe we are up for the challenge."
The Lady Bobcats will start the season February 1 at Augusta State.
