HIGH POINT, N.C. --- Lees-McRae College senior Christine Vanard (Winston-Salem, N.C.) has been named to the 2011 Conference Carolinas women's tennis all-academic team for the first time in her career, announced league officials on Tuesday.
The 2011 conference academic team features 14 juniors and seniors from eight of the league's member institutions who have a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 or higher on a 4.0 scale. Erskine College and Mount Olive College lead the way with three recipients each, while Barton College and Limestone College each placed two on the team.
Vanard has been a mainstay in the Bobcat lineup throughout the season, slotting into the first singles flight for the duration of the campaign and posting several critical victories. The Winston-Salem, N.C. native has also played at the No. 1 doubles flight throughout the campaign, teaming with fellow senior Maria Andrade (Middle Village, N.Y.) for a hard-fought 9-8 (7-1) victory against Barton's top duo on Mar. 22.
Lees-McRae returns to the courts on Wednesday when the Bobcats host Queens University of Charlotte in a conference matchup at 2 p.m.
