BANNER ELK, N.C. --- Skylar Warren has been named the head men's and women's tennis coach at Lees-McRae College, announced Director of Athletics Craig McPhail Friday.
"I am very thankful to Coach [Aaron] Petersen for stabilizing the program and being able to turn the job over to Skylar," expressed McPhail. "This is our third young alumni to take over a program in which they participated, and I am certain Skylar's energy and passion for the sport of tennis will show forth in the recruiting of our storied program."
Warren has served the Bobcat tennis program as an assistant coach after a successful two-year career with the Bobcats. During his career, Warren compiled a doubles record of 13-17, including a 10-6 mark as part of the Bobcats' top doubles pairing in 2012. A native of Asheville, N.C., Warren also posted five singles victories last season, including four straight-set wins in Conference Carolinas play.
"Skylar has been involved with tennis for a long time and has been able to establish great relationships with key folks, who we believe can help us get back to the glory we all have experienced with tennis at Lees-McRae College," said McPhail.
"I am very grateful for the opportunity Craig McPhail has given me to lead a great group of student athletes, who are working very hard for the bright future at Lees-McRae College," said Warren. "We have a young team with strong leadership on both sides. The team is full of fight and determination to get better each and every day. During my time at LMC I learned many lessons on and off the court and am very excited about the opportunity to pass those on."
Lees-McRae opens its 2013 championship season on Sunday, February 10 when the Bobcats host Tusculum College at 12 p.m.
