SALISBURY, N.C. --- The North Georgia College and State University women's tennis team swept singles and doubles play en route to a 9-0 victory over Lees-McRae College in non-conference play on Sunday afternoon on the campus of Catawba College.
North Georgia's (3-9) duo of Natalia Escobar and Mathilde Baartvedt opened the day with an 8-2 win against Lees-McRae's (0-7) tandem of Samantha Wohlers (Windsor, Ontario, Canada) and Hilary Lutz (Shelby, N.C.), before Cameron Williams and Adalyn Hazelman defeated Taylor Bost (Jefferson, Ga.) and Stevie Harrell (Morganton, N.C.), 8-1. The Saints were awarded the third flight by default.
Williams gave the Saints a 4-0 advantage with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Wohlers at No. 1 singles, as Baartvedt clinched the team victory for North Georgia in the second flight with a 6-3, 6-1 decision against Lutz. Hazelman defeated Bost, 6-2, 6-2, while Nella Handac registered a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Harrell. Natasha Bertolucci posted a 6-1, 6-2 win against Emily Jones (Leonardtown, Md.) at No. 5 singles, as the Saints were awarded the sixth flight by default.
Lees-McRae returns to the courts on Wednesday when the Bobcats travel to Harrogate, Tenn. to take on Lincoln Memorial University in non-conference action at 2 p.m.
