NEWLAND, N.C. --- The Queens University of Charlotte women's tennis team swept both singles and doubles play en route to a 9-0 victory over Lees-McRae College in Conference Carolinas play on Saturday afternoon at Avery County High School.
Queens' (9-3, 6-2 CC) duo of Christina Rustscheff and Erin Williams opened the day with an 8-1 victory over Lees-McRae's (1-13, 1-8 CC) tandem of Samantha Wohlers (Windsor, Ontario, Canada) and Hilary Lutz (Shelby, N.C.). Amanda Poole and Morgan Roberts defeated Taylor Bost (Jefferson, Ga.) and Stevie Harrell (Morganton, N.C.), 8-3 at No. 2 doubles, as Queens was awarded the third flight by default.
Rustscheff pushed the lead to 4-0 with a 6-0, 6-1 decision against Wohlers in the first flight, before Roberts clinched the team victory by defeating Lutz, 6-3, 6-2 at No. 2 singles. Williams posted a 6-0, 6-0 win over Bost in the third flight, while Poole registered a 6-3, 6-0 victory against Harrell. Farina Rafig defeated Emily Jones (Leonardtown, Md.), 6-2, 6-0 at No. 5 singles, as the Royals were awarded the sixth flight by default.
Lees-McRae returns to the courts on Sunday when the Bobcats host Limestone College in league play at 12 p.m. at Avery County High School in Newland, N.C.
