BRISTOL, Tenn. --- Lees-McRae junior Samantha Wohlers and sophomore Hillary Lutz grabbed a pair of wins each, but LMC fell in heartbreaking fashion, 5-4, in a Conference Carolinas women's tennis match Tuesday afternoon at the King Tennis Complex in Bristol, Tenn.
The Tornado (7-8, 2-3 CC) earned their third win in March while snapping a two-match losing skid. The Bobcats (1-9, 0-3) have dropped six consecutive contests.
Wohlers (Windsor, Ontario, Canada) gutted out a 6-4, 7-6 (4), 6-1 win against King's Katya Cerny in No. 1 singles play.
Lutz (Shelby, N.C.) dominated Naomi Reyes 6-0, 6-1, in No. 2 singles competition.
The Tornado swiped a point from the No. 3 and 4 singles position.
Freshman Amanda Chapman (Sunderland, Md.) defeated Claudia Morris in an entertaining No. 5 singles match, 6-3, 2-6, 10-7.
Wohlers and Lutz took care of business with an 8-2 victory at No. 1 doubles. However, King claimed the overall win with identical 8-3 wins at No. 2 and 3 doubles.
LMC welcomes Mount Olive March 22 for a Conference Carolinas match at 11 a.m. at the Lees-McRae Tennis Courts.
