ORLANDO, Fla. - The Lees-McRae College women's tennis team posted a pair of 4-3 wins on Tuesday (Mar. 12) in Florida, defeating Southwestern College (Kan.) and Mount Holyoke College.
Lees-McRae won two out of three doubles matches against Southwestern to secure the doubles point, before winning three out of six singles matches to get the victory. Sandy Allen and Nursharneem Shamsuddin teamed up for a 6-2 win at No. 1 doubles, before Zeynep Cakirer and Mackenzie Langmade won at No. 2 doubles 6-4. Allen would win her No. 1 singles match 6-4, 6-3, before Shamsuddin would win convincingly at No. 2 singles 6-1, 6-1. Jaden Acklin would help secure the victory with a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 6 singles.
The Bobcats would once again win two out of three doubles matches against Mount Holyoke, securing a crucial point in doubles play. Allen and Shamsuddin won a tight 7-6 (8-7) match at No. 1, before Acklin and Rebecca Pierce came up with a 6-3 win at No. 3. Shamsuddin would pick up a 1-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-7) victory at No. 2 singles, before Cakirer won at No. 3 singles in straight sets 6-0, 6-1. Acklin would come up clutch again at No. 6 singles, winning 6-0, 6-3.
Lees-McRae (7-5) is back in action tomorrow (Wednesday, Mar. 13) taking on Carnegie Mellon at 12 p.m. and squaring off with Navy for the second time this week at 4 p.m.
