HIGH POINT, N.C. - Lees-McRae College's Erin Tyler has been selected as the NCAA Division II Conference Carolinas Women's Tack Athlete and Field Athlete of the Week during week number four in the 2009 outdoor season: Tyler's outstanding performances this week led her to be recognized as both Track and Field athlete of the week, which is the first time one athlete has received both awards.
She led the Lees-McRae women's track team with her strong
performance in the heptathlon.
In the 100m hurdles she ran a 16.78, which earned her a rank of second among Conference Carolinas competitors. She also earned a personal best 611 points towards her overall score in the 100m. Her 200m time of 27.71 placed her fourth in the conference and gave her another personal best of 654 points in the event. Tyler competed in those two events on the same day.
On the first day, she also competed in the high jump and finished with a height of 5"02', 4.58 meters, placing her third in the conference and earning her 502 points in the heptathlon. Her fourth event on the first day was the shot put where she finished with the distances of 29'08", 9.04m.
On day two, she started off with a long jump of 4.48m for 423 points. Tyler then competed in the javelin with a distance of 91'09", 27.97m, for a total of 438 points. The distance also puts Tyler in first place in the conference. Her final event was the 800m where she finished with a time of 2:47.47 for 490 points.
She finished seventh with a total of 3,585 points. Tyler now owns the school record by 285 points.
