
BANNER ELK, N.C. -- Anderson's Lauren Sloan earns Freshman of the Year and Field Athlete of the Year, Limestone's Barbee earns Track Athlete of the Year, and Limestone's Kevin Vees earns Coach of the Years as his Lady Saints won the Conference Carolinas Track and Field Inaugural Track and Field Meet at the Arthur, Lauristen and Sanders Track and Field Venue.
Sloan took home her honors, Freshman of the Year and Field
Athlete of the Year, with 32 total points. She competed in four
events with three first place finishes and a fifth place finish.
She competed in two events on day two and two events on day
one.
Barbee earned Track Athlete of the Year by competing and scoring in
four events for a total of 30 points.
The women's team final standing was decided by four points between
first place Limestone and second place Anderson. Third place
Lees-McRae was 19 points off the lead.
To start her day to off, Sloan won the women's discus with a
distance of 37.75m. Limestone's Whittney Brewton finished second
with a 35.95m toss, and Mount Olive's Shae Garner finished thirdr
with a distance of 31.70m.
In her second event, the javelin, she finished fifth with a 20.70m
throw. Katelyn Rodgers of Anderson won the event with a distance
of 27.29m; Erin Tyler finished second with a distance of 27.00m and
Meagan Rodrigues finished third with a distance of 26.16
meters.
On day one, Sloan won the women's hammer and the women's shot
put.
Barbee started her day off in the 4x100m relay where her and
teammates Jenny Altieri, Sam McGowan and Jalisa Samuels won the
event with a time of 49.34, which is a new facilities record.
Anderson's team finished second with a time of 51.89, and Mount
Olive took third with a time of 52.09.
Barbee followed the record-breaking performance with a first place
finish in the 100m dash to earn the title "the fastest woman in the
Conference Carolinas" with a time of 12.45. Queens' Ariel Darden
finished second with a time of 12.67, and Jessica Goodwater from
Queens finished third with a time of 13.08.
She then added wins at the 400m dash and 200m dash to cap off her
day. Her 400m time was 58.35, and her 200m time was 25.32. In the
400m, teammate Jalisa Samuels finished second with a time of 59.92,
and Rebecca Ford of Lees-McRae finished third with a time of
1:00.02. In the 200m, Darden finished second with a time of 26.09,
and Samuels finished third with a time of 26.20.
Another notable finish in the meet was Ariel Woodard-Stephens with
an 11.89m triple jump. The distance is an NCAA provisional mark
and a new facilities record.
Altieri also set a new facilities record in the 100m hurdles with a
time of 15.82, and Jamie Pointer set another facilities record in
the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:07.44.
