BOONE, N.C. --- Sophomore Jamara Cook (Claremont, N.C.) posted a personal-best in the shot put to lead the Lees-McRae College women's track and field team to a solid showing at the ASU Invitational, hosted by Appalachian State University, on Friday.
Cook hurled the shot put a personal-best 10.45 meters to finish the competition in eighth place, while freshman Kortnie Curry (Lexington, N.C.) nearly equaled her school record in the high jump with a mark of 1.57 meters to place fourth. Fellow rookie Taryn Moorhead (Deer Park, Wash.) finished eighth in the pole vault with a mark of 3.00 meters, while Auburn Lowe (Swain County, N.C.) placed seventh in the 400-meter run with a time of 1:08.85. Ieasha Poindexter (Jetterville, Va.) also placed eighth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 29.23 seconds.
Lees-McRae opens the outdoor season on Mar. 5 when the Bobcats travel to Hickory, N.C. to participate in the Power Sox Invitational, hosted by Lenoir-Rhyne University.
