Bobcats earn USTFCCCA all-academic status

NEW ORLEANS --- The Lees-McRae College women's track and field team has earned all-academic status from the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association for the first time in school history, announced USTFCCCA officials Tuesday.

Each year, the USTFCCCA confers all-academic status on each NCAA Division II track & field program which boasts a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or better. This season, the Bobcats were one of 74 programs to earn the honor, and are the only member of Conference Carolinas to garner the distinction.

Lees-McRae enjoyed a stellar season this past spring, finishing third at the Conference Carolinas Championships and sixth at the NCAA Division II Southeast Region Championships. The Bobcats set a total of eight school records this past season, including a trio of marks at the Southeast Region Championships, as Taryn Moorhead (Deer Park, Wash.), Kortnie Curry (Lexington, N.C.), Crystal Bass (Branford, Fla.), and Chelsea Wood (Cumming, Ga.) each earned USTFCCCA all-Southeast Region recognition.

The Bobcats are expected to return 14 letter-winners from last year's squad, including program-record-holders Bass, Curry, Moorhead, Jamara Cook (Claremont, N.C.), and Hannah Henderson (Canvas, W.Va.).
