Lees-McRae ranked second in first Southeast Region Poll

NEW ORLEANS --- The Lees-McRae College women's track and field team is ranked second in the first installment of the 2012 United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches' Association Indoor Track and Field Southeast Region Poll, announced USTFCCCA officials Tuesday.

King College tops the region with a total of 361.59, followed by Lees-McRae (269.66), Limestone College (187.53), Queens University of Charlotte (172.16), and Anderson University (163.30). Lenoir-Rhyne University is sixth with a mark of 148.02, followed by Mars Hill College (128.18) and Clayton State University (94.17).

The Bobcats have performed well in the first two meets of the season, posting 10 top-10 finishes, including a pair of top-five performances by freshman Meagan Thornton (Millville, N.J.) at Appalachian State University's 2012 Mountaineer Split Indoor Open on Jan. 19. The rookie finished second in the 400-meter dash with a school-record mark of 59.98 seconds, while also placing fourth in the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 8.76 seconds.

Lees-McRae returns to action on January 27 and 28 at the Niswonger Open in Johnson City, Tenn.
