Bobcats ranked sixth in Southeast Region
NEW ORLEANS --- The Lees-McRae College women's track and field team is ranked sixth in the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Southeast Region poll, announced USTFCCCA officials Wednesday.
Limestone College tops the poll with a total of 406.35, followed by King College (346.10), Mount Olive College (336.58), Anderson University (230.66), and Queens University of Charlotte (189.40). Lees-McRae is sixth with a mark of 186.58, followed by Clayton State University (153.38), Lenoir-Rhyne University (88.59), and Mars Hill College (84.97).
The Bobcats performed well last weekend at the Kent Taylor Invitational Indoor Track and Field Meet, as freshman Meagan Thornton (Millville, N.J.) posted a trio of top-10 finishes. Thornton notched her best performance of the day in the 60-meter hurdle prelims, running a personal-best time of 9.42 seconds to qualify for the finals. She finished seventh in the finals with a mark of 9.45 seconds, while also placing 10th in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:01.72.
Lees-McRae returns to action on Friday when the Bobcats travel to Boone, N.C. to take part in Appalachian State University's Pre-Conference Meet.
