BOONE, N.C. --- Sophomore Kortnie Curry (Lexington, N.C.) and freshman Rachelle Cleveland (Moyock, N.C.) each established a new school record to lead the Lees-McRae College women's track and field team to a strong performance at Appalachian State University's Pre-Conference Meet on Friday.
Curry finished second in the high jump with a program-record mark of 1.63 meters, as Persephanie Mcrae (Brooklyn, N.Y.) placed sixth with a jump of 1.53 meters. Meagan Thornton (Millville, N.J.) placed third in the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 8.93 seconds, as Iesha Poindexter (Jetterville, Va.) and Jessica McEnaney (Cary, N.C.) finished fourth and ninth in the 55-meter dash, respectively.
McEnaney also placed sixth in the 200-meter dash, finishing with a time of 28.02 seconds, as Poindexter and Auburn Lowe (Swain County, N.C.) came in seventh and eighth, respectively. Casey Clark (Roanoke, Va.) finished sixth in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:46.22, as Heather Peterman (Buford, Ga.) placed ninth.
Cleveland finished sixth in the shot put, posting a school-record mark of 11.20 meters, as Jamara Cook (Claremont, N.C.) placed ninth with a throw of 9.95 meters. Cook also finished ninth in the weight throw with a mark of 12.27 meters, as Genay Miller (Woodstock, Ga.) placed 10th.
Lees-McRae returns to action in the first meet of the outdoor season on Friday, March 3 when the Bobcats travel to Hickory, N.C. to take part in Lenoir-Rhyne University's Power Sox Invitational.
