NEW ORLEANS --- The Lees-McRae College women's track and field team placed seven student-athletes on the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Indoor all-Southeast Region team, announced USTFCCCA officials Thursday.
Lees-McRae has ranked among the top teams in the region throughout the season, posting 31 individual top-10 finishes and establishing four new school records. Freshman Meagan Thornton (Millville, N.J.) earned all-region honors in both the 60-meter hurdles and the 400-meter dash, establishing a new program record in the 400-meter dash with a time of 59.98 seconds at Appalachian State University's Mountaineer Split Open on Jan. 19.
Rachelle Cleveland (Moyock, N.C.) and Jamara Cook (Claremont, N.C.) earned all-region recognition in the shot put and weight throw, respectively, as Kortnie Curry (Lexington, N.C.) and Persephanie Mcrae (Brooklyn, N.Y.) both garnered all-region honors in the high jump. Taryn Moorhead (Deer Park, Wash.) and Iesha Poindexter (Jetterville, Va.) each garnered all-region recognition in the pole vault and 60-meter dash, respectively.
Lees-McRae returns to action in the first meet of the outdoor season on Friday, March 3 when the Bobcats travel to Hickory, N.C. to take part in Lenoir-Rhyne University's Power Sox Invitational.
