Smith Named CVAC Volleyball Player of the Week

Preseason AVCA All American Lacie Smith has been selected as the NCAA Division II Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference (CVAC) women's volleyball Player of the Week in the eighth week of the 2006 season.

The senior outside hitter from Knoxville, TN had outstanding performances for the Lady Bobcats; leading them to a 2-0 record last week with victories over conference rivals St. Andrews's Presbyterian College and Coker College. In the game against St. Andrews, Smith totaled 14 kills, 9 digs, 3 aces, 1.5 blocks, & 1 assist while hitting at a .480 clip. She followed that up with another solid performance against Coker totaling 9 kills, 8 digs, 2 aces, & 1 block with a .438 hitting percentage.

With both wins for the week, Smith and the Lady Bobcats improve to 23-7 overall and 15-2 in the CVAC. Currently, they are tied atop the CVAC standings with Limestone College with just three regular season games remaining. The regular season champion will receive the top seed in next weeks CVAC Tournament Championship hosted by Converse College in Spartanburg, SC.
