The top seeded Lees-McRae Lady Bobcats won their ninth straight Carolinas-Virginia Athletic Conference Championship defeating the Limestone Lady Saints 3-1 (20-30, 30-21, 30-24, and 30-28). With the loss, Limestone finishes the season 25-9, while the Lady Bobcats record improves to 29-7.
Daviana Metti led the Lady Bobcats offense with a game high 14 kills, while Preseason AVCA All Americans Amanda Huffaker and Lacie Smith chipped in with 12 and 11 respectively. The trio was named to the CVAC All Tournament Team, while Smith, (pictured left) was also named Tournament MVP for the second straight year. Huffaker and Smith also made an impact on the defensive side of the ball with Huffaker adding a solo block and 4 block assists and Smith adding a team high 23 digs. Tiarra Pendleton and Dani Usedom each added 13 digs a piece and Lauren Dickover put up 23 assists.
Limestone's Melissa Thomas had 14 kills while Ashley Hubbard and Amber Wise had 11 and 10 kills respectively. Alison Hamilton dished out a game high 34 assists for the Lady Saints, who shared the CVAC Regular Season Championship this year with the Lady Bobcats sporting identical 18-2 conference records. Hamilton and Julie Oleson also led the team in digs with a game high 24, while Courtney Taotoai counted for 22 of her own. Oleson and Wise were both selected to the All Tournament Team for the Lady Saints.
With the win, Lees-McRae earns the CVAC automatic bid into the 2006 NCAA National Championship. The Lady Bobcats will play in the Atlantic Regional, and look to improve upon last season's NCAA Sweet Sixteen finish.
