Smith Named to AVCA All American Team

Lees-McRae College Lady Bobcats senior outside hitter Lacie Smith was named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association 26th annual All American team for the 2006 season. Named to the AVCA Honorable Mention team, the award caps off a brilliant career after leading the Lady Bobcats to their ninth straight Carolinas-Virginia Athletic Conference title.

Smith finished her four year collegiate career with three CVAC Regular Season Championships, four CVAC Tournament Titles, and participated in four NCAA Tournaments. In 2005, Smith guided the Lady Bobcats to a program best Sweet Sixteen finish at the NCAA Tournament, and was named to the NCAA Atlantic All Region Team.

The owner of three school records, (career service aces - 190; digs - 1098; kills - 1915), Smith was also named the CVAC Player of the Year for 2006 and was named CVAC Tournament MVP for the second year and a row. Her senior year also included recognition on the AVCA Atlantic All Region team.

A four time All CVAC Team member, (second team as a freshman and sophomore; first team as a junior and senior), Smith was named to the CVAC's All Time team and finished her career with a 113-40 (69-7 CVAC) record.
The 2006 All-America selections were made by the AVCA Division II All-America Committee: Kim Sudbeck, Augustana College, chairperson; Mario Andaya, Central Washington University; Christy Benner, Wheeling Jesuit University; Jim Boos, University of Minnesota Duluth; Debbie Hendricks, Metropolitan State College of Denver; Sandy Hoffman, Bentley College; Laurie Lokash, Slippery Rock University; Stephanie Radecki, University of North Alabama; and Jill Stephens, Florida Southern College.
