Banner Elk, NC--The Lees-McRae Lady Bobcats volleyball team got back into the win column with a 3-0 victory over Mars Hill College Saturday morning at the Carolina Challenge, hosted by Lees-McRae. The win improves the Lady Bobcats record to 6-6, (2-0 Conference Carolinas).
The visiting Lions pushed the Lady Bobcats to the edge in game one, as six extra points were needed to settle the score, 34-32, in favor of the home side. The Lions would continue to battle the Lady Bobcats in games two and three, however the nine-time defending conference champion Lady Bobcats managed to pull out 30-24 and 30-21 victories to complete the sweep.
Daviana Metti (Cordoba, Argentina), Whitney Kiser (Connelly Springs, NC) and Katie-Marie Legg provided the Lady Bobcats with some consistency up front as each finished the match with a hitting percentage over .400. Metti (pictured top left) led the charge with 18 kills, hitting .457 while Kiser registered the high percentage going .500 with ten kills. Legg finished with six kills hitting .417 and also contributed two service aces. Lauren Dickover (Las Vegas, NV) and Kell Bogdan (Leawood, KS) handled setting duties for the Lady Bobcats, recording 17 and 14 respectively.
Defensively, senior libero Dani Usedom (Geneva, IL) and Bogdan registered a team high six digs each.
The Lady Bobcats will close out the weekend with their final
game of the Carolina Challenge this evening against Clarion
University. Game time is set for 7:00pm.
